Chapter 1

Ten years ago, a knight named Kincaid Bladewolf who serves for Brylto Monarchy. He is a slothful man but yet solemn on shield his country; this is why his title linger as a widespread combatant. He has three best buddies whose included Queen Erin, wife of Lord Kirby Brylto but he and Queen Erin got estranged with other two after graduation of cram. To portray about Kincaid, he is a tall chap, had a chaotic locks and good-but-weak looking. He also is from the 7th Brigade Knight Squad, escorted by Captain Siegfried.

One hot summer day, Captain Siegfried received a command to backing-up the 6th Brigade Knight Squad, led by Captain Joshua on the front line fight against Darriyo army at Baisonfield. Captain Siegfried then structured one of his men, Private Marko to inform the others to get ready. During that time, Kincaid was taking a doze under a tree at the backyard of the barrack. His friend, William Broaden come approach, trying to jerk Kincaid from behind.

“Heeelllloooo, Kincaid, my besssssst friend! Are you sleeping?!” William swiftly jumped out and scares Kincaid on his rationale.

“Willy, you jerk! Am I looked like eating? Man!” Kincaid get irritated but yet not angry at all at William.

“Heh! Kincaid, you such a lazy man but yet serious on your duty.” William claims that Kincaid is sloth but he like his stance.

“Speaking of laziness, how about your skill? Still can judge against with mine? I can see you wasting your time on fooling around more than training, am I right?” Kincaid then said that William is parallel to him, an indolent man who likes to bamboozle around.

“Dah! Let’s test it out! I would like to see yours as well!” William then playing with Kincaid again, he hounding Kincaid and Kincaid is absconding.

Subsequently, Marko has arrived and observed that his comrades were playing each other and he get pissed off for their etiquette.

“Ahem! So this is what my comrades always did. ” Marko started talking with them and gets aggravated when seeing they are playing.

“Uh-oh, it’s Marko! I mean what bring you here, Mr. Captain’s-right-man?” Kincaid abhor Makoto who always being obedience to Captain Siegfried.

“I have nothing concern about you guys but you guys better get ready for battlefield. Captain Siegfried is waiting for us. Sigh, why you guys won’t get killed for the previous battle?” Marko tell them about Captain Siegfried is congress them and Marko banter them as well.

“Why you?!”

“Stop, Kincaid! Don’t waste your energy on that bastard. We better focus on our next battle. That bastard’s skill not as good as us and I’m sure HE is the one who will get killed.” William swayed Kincaid to concentrate on the battle more than Marko.

“… You’re right. Let’s go, Captain is waiting for us.”

At that moment, Kincaid and William sprint back to their barrack and wearing their knight breastplates and wielding their sword, then going to the field to meet with Captain Siegfried and other knights.

“I’m glad all of you’re here. A few minutes later, we will go to assist the 6th Squad at Baisonfield fight against with Darriyo army. Any comment?” Captain Siegfried gave a straightforward succinct and implying his men to get ready.

“Sir, I thought the 6th Squad was better than us. Why would his Majesty order us to back them up?” one of the men asked with curiosity.

“Even a hero will get in a trouble sometimes, and as your acknowledge, this is his Majesty’s order. As a soldier, we must follow the order of the leader and our lord. Don’t you agree, lad?” Captain Siegfried said.

“Err… my bad, sir.”

Meanwhile, the 6th Squad is having hard time to fight Darriyo army and started yelling for the tardy of corroboration. Even their in-charge, Captain Joshua also injured from the ambush attack, only the elite soldiers of squad such as Lieutenant Ethan, Sergeant Broil, Sergeant Nana, Corporal Grace and Private Virile.

“Man, why the reinforcement that damn slow? We almost annihilated! ” Ethan shriek about 7th Squad’s endorsement.

“Stop yelling, soldier and continue the fight. We still have to survive and you don’t want to die here, do you?” Captain Joshua is trying to induce Ethan.

“But there were only us left, sir!” Virile persist the tête-à-tête.

“This is why his Majesty ordered the 7th Squad to back us up. Just hang on, they will arrive soon.” Broil said.

“But they are outnumbering of us!” Virile continued.

Suddenly, an arrow looms and shoots on one of the Darriyo armies’ head. The arrow was come from 7th Squad’s sniper. Captain Siegfried and his men finally arrived and saved them. Captain Siegfried command Kincaid and William to take wounded Captain Joshua to nearby and taking care of his lesion with coincidence. Lieutenant Ethan and the rest of 6th Squad were relief that they finally arrived.

“One down, sir!”

“And the 6th Squad?” Captain Siegfried asked.

“They are only 6 people remaining, including wounded Captain Joshua, sir!”

“Jos… I mean Captain Joshua’s wound at which part?” Captain Siegfried seems anxious to his pal’s injured.

“Unfortunately, it’s on his upper body.”

“This isn’t sound good. You, the broadsword lad and the rapier lad advance to Captain Joshua’s position and taking him to safety place. It will be risking, but we will covering you guys. Good luck!” Captain Siegfried prearranged Kincaid and William to menace their life to save Captain Joshua with quirk.

“Don’t worry, folks. I and others will take care of you guys too, heh!” Marko captivating this chance to teasing them since Makoto abhor them. Both Kincaid and William stillness and doing their tasks.

Kincaid and William rush to Captain Joshua’s position with precautious. They taking the opponents around them and asking the rest of 6th Squad on Captain Siegfried’s behalf to taking care of themselves. For Kincaid, this is his ordeal. Kincaid always want to be gallant and straight-forward, against enemies by himself. For William, he always is his friend’s side. He always wants to protect his companion from jeopardy. This is why their partnership was strong.

“Rah! I always want to do this, come on. Let’s rock!” Kincaid getting keyed up for swordfight his enemies.

“Dude, don’t forget our task to protect Captain Joshua from harm.” William reminds Kincaid about their task, as a friend of him.

“Yeah, I know! Hey, the rest of 6th. You better to taking care of yourselves; we can’t guarantee your life!” Kincaid seems disregard his position and ordered the rest of 6th Squad on Captain Siegfried’s behalf.

“Oh god, you always that rough, my friend.”

“Who the hell he is? We are elite fighters. Besides, their other members are helping us.” Broil grumble about Kincaid’s manner.

“I don’t care about him, as long as they can save our captain.” Ethan grins but yet admire Kincaid’s attitude.

With their strong spirit, Kincaid and William managed to save Captain Joshua’s life. Captain Joshua tell them to join the others on the battleground since there will be a medic will look for his injury. Kincaid seems thrilled with Captain Joshua’s utterance and join the war with William.

Throughout the war, Corporal Grace Laychock from the 6th Squad gets in a nuisance. She was ganged by three enemies on one occasion. Her right hand was injured due the mishap and her comrades were on their own. When she was thinking that she will be gone, Kincaid suddenly emerge and save her life with jacket all harass from enemies with his broadsword. With William’s facilitate, he stabs the enemies from behind to take shelter of Kincaid and Grace.

“Crap, now I’m done for it.” Grace upset and be ready to get slay.

“Huh?” Grace traumatized when she saw Kincaid in front of her and sentry enemies’ attack.

“Heh, luckily my sword is big enough to take three attacks in once. Willy, now!” Kincaid secluded Grace and tell William to seize the enemies out.

“You got it!” William then takes three enemies out with his prompt fencing technique.

At length, the in control of Darriyo army asked their force to retreat since they are losing. Both 6th Squad and 7th Squad finally can take a break after the war; they sit on the ground and praise themselves for their victory. Lieutenant Ethan moves toward to Kincaid and William to gratitude them for saving their captain. Kincaid claimed about that was his duty to obey his captain’s command and he shall not be respected. Still, Lieutenant Ethan would like to be his and William’s friend.

“Hey, can we have a moment?” Ethan asks Kincaid.

“The name is Kincaid, not ‘hey’.”

“I beg my pardon, Kincaid. I’m not mean to disrespect.” Ethan apologizes to Kincaid for the insolence.

“Come on, I’m just kidding. Don’t be that formal. Who are you by the way?” Kincaid declared that he just fooling around and told Ethan to not to be ceremonial.

“Very well. My name is Ethan, Ethan Santos.” Ethan smirk again and he esteem Kincaid’s informal chic.

“Santos? What a weird name. You must be always being nice to everyone like Jesus Christ. Ha, no wonder you being formal to me just now.” Kincaid treat him as a friend of him and make fun of him devoid of knowing his pose.

“Ethan Santos? The name familiar to me. Are you one of the survivors of 6th Squad?” William seems heard of this name before and asking Ethan’s background.

“Yup, I’m from 6th Squad.”

“Yikes, I beg my pardon on my friend’s behalf. Thousand sorry, sir!” William just recognized that Ethan was the lieutenant of 6th Squad.

“Huh? What you apologizes for?” Kincaid seems don’t understand William.

“I don’t blame you for didn’t studied for our military history. This man is Ethan Santos, the well-known lieutenant in 6th Squad. He is ex-captain for 5th Squad and own ‘Lieutenant Edge’ as a title.” William tells Kincaid about Ethan.

“Huh? Lieutenant Edge? Cool.” Kincaid seems ignore William’s word.

“Can you be respect on him at least?” William concerned that a eminent person like Ethan will charge them.

“It seems you have studied for our military history very well. Ha! Ha! No worries, I will not blame you guys even though I’m a gentleman. Plus, I like you guys’ attitudes.” Ethan claim that he is not angry not Kincaid for insolence.

“See? He didn’t blame us on that. Relax, man. By the way, sir, what bring you here?” Kincaid said.

“I thought you already mentioned that not be formal? Oh well, I would like to send my gratefulness for saving captain’s life.” Ethan elucidate that he just want to mail his gratitude to Kincaid and William.

“How forgetful I am. Well, it’s our duty to follow captain’s order to save Captain Joshua, that’s all.” Kincaid then explain that was their obligation.

“If you don’t mind, I would like to be friend with you guys.” Ethan finally shows his main rationale.

“Sure, why not? It will be my honor, ha! Ha!” Kincaid accept Ethan as a friend promptly.

“Huh? I mean wow; I can’t believe that we can become friend with Lieutenant Edge.” William seems getting excited and implausible that he had a chance to become Ethan’s friend with Kincaid. Beside, Ethan is one of the men who are cherished by William.

“You know what, Kincaid. You just like young me; being hustle on yourself to against enemies on battlefield, even though you know there are lots of them and forgot your position and giving the order to other people. This is what I like. Ha! Ha!” Ethan explained the minutiae.

“Wow, he likes you, Kincaid. Perhaps you can be his apprentice. Ha! Ha! Just joking.” William envy Kincaid that admired by Ethan.

“I’m afraid that I can’t accept any apprentice. Hope you can understand. But, as a friend, I can teach you guys a tad of skills of mine.” Ethan does not accept Kincaid or William as his tyro for some raison d'être but he is ready to edify them, as a friend of them.

In the meantime, Captain Siegfried and Captain Joshua also having their dialogue at the corner. They saw Ethan, Kincaid and William had their amusing moment and enjoying the undergo of victory for whitewashed Darriyo army for now. Captain Siegfried and Captain Joshua are confidant and best rival as well. They had known since they are adolescent, they always depleted their time to sparing until they get the pose as skipper.

“Look at them; it seems the well-known Lieutenant Edge has become friend of lads of mine.” Captain Siegfried point at them and start the natter with Captain Joshua.

“It’s pretty rare that Ethan befriend with stumpy level soldier. I bet all because of your lads’ courage especially the blue messy hair lad of yours.” Captain Joshua explains.

“But, what bring him to admiring my lads’ manner? I mean those two just commoners of mine. I don’t understand.” Captain Siegfried felt inquisitive about it and asked.

“Hmm… I think it reminds him about young him. By the way, what’s their name?” Captain Joshua seems importance on them and request for their name.

“As I said, they’re just two commoners of mine.” Captain Siegfried implying that he doesn’t know Kincaid and William’s name.

“You don’t know either? Heh, it’s common that a leader pay no attention to his men.” Captain Joshua teasing Captain Siegfried for being a terrible chief.

“Tell me. How your squad can be ambushed and almost gets annihilated? As I know, your squad was better than mine.” Captain Siegfried out of the matter and asking for the state of affairs of 6th Squad.

“Well, after my team defeated the previous war. We’re planning to go back to palace and report it to his Majesty. But, we lack of cautious and being ambushed. Many men of mine were injured from previous war and now our squad left 6 people, including me.” Captain Joshua enlightens how his squadron gets eradication.

“I see. Then what’s your next plan? You have 5 men. Will your squad join other squad or remain your squad as natural?” Captain Siegfried wishes to know Captain Joshua’s next move.

“Hmm… I had no idea. I think we better leave it to General Sisquade to make the decision for my squad. By the way, I think it’s getting dark. Let’s head back before we get ambush again.” Captain Joshua has out of idea and thinking to let their general to make a verdict.

Captain Siegfried then settled with Captain Joshua to head back. Both 6th Squad and 7th Squad are heading home. On the way for home, Kincaid was gape at Corporal Grace that he saved earlier meanwhile William and Ethan argue about William’s fencing technique. In the interim, Lord Darriyo, sovereign of Darriyo Empire ordered one of his captains, Captain Daniel Grahams to make a next move on the town that Brylto Monarchy nearby. To shun knowing their identities, Captain Daniel and his force was told to pretending as common town folks.
